I just can’t decide who will be October’s Vampire of the Month, it’s either Chase Harding (A) or Miles Pride (B), for the soon to be released Twinkblood, so I need your help. Vote by commenting below with your choice (Chase Harding or Miles Pride) and the Vampire of the Month will be chosen by your votes.

A few years ago Fab magazine, a gay scene magazine in Toronto, ran a vampire cover for Halloween. The vampire was decked out if this amazing leather coat from Northbound Leather (totally hot leather, btw). Sadly we don’t see him take the bite.

Eulogy for a Vampire

Details are sketchy, but apparently a film opened last weekend by director Patrick McGuinn and writer André Salas. The longline for the film, “A remote rural monastery is overtaken by a mysterious drifter” and the longer synopsis don’t clarify if this is actually a vampire film. Has anyone seen it? Eulogy for a Vampire

Synopsis:
“A remote rural monastery inhabited by the monks of the mysterious Order of
Pathicus is the site of a heinous murder, committed by a young novice, Anthony,
upon another young novice, Florian, when his affections and sexual desires are
not reciprocated. Flash forward twenty-five years – Father Anthony, now the
head priest of the monastery, has maintained the secret of the murder, and the
hiding place of Florian’s corpse. But all is not well: animal eviscerations, strange
sounds in the night, and the presence of a strange “phantom goat” in the dark
corridors forebode an evil presence. Add to this, the handsome young drifter,
Sebastian who is found unconscious near the monastery. His strong sexual
presence unsettles the young novices as well as the other resident priest, Father
Lars. One by one, each of the monks unravel by their own obsession with the
young man. All but Rafael, who resists the temptations set before him, and
escapes the crumbling monastery by the film’s end. Rafael discovers that
Sebastian is possessed by the evil spirit of Florian, in order to avenge Florian’s
death at the hands of Anthony over two decades ago.”

Note: this is meant to be taken as humor… it’s the Onion… they’re not being serious. But they do show that while vampires “are flashy dresser but it’s all in the service of seducing beautiful women”. Rrr-eal-ly.

How gay was My Best Friend is a Vampire

In the run up to Halloween the vampire movies of the past are rising from the grave. Released in 1988, My Best Friend is a Vampire was an American horror-comedy about a teenager named Jeremy Capello who is bitten while attempting to have sex with a woman and turns into a vampire (if that’s how straight sex worked, I might be more into it). Jeremy, played by Robert Sean Leonard (of House, Dead Poets Society and Swing Kids) must first learn to accept himself then come out to his best friend and potential girlfriend, while fighting off a crazed vampire hunter. The film made several references to sexuality and at one point Jeremy’s parents begin to suspect he’s gay.

The fresh-faced Leonard was a teenager when the film was shot/released and he played the role well. Jim Carrey’s earlier film Once Bitten (1985) was far more campy and comedic (maybe because it was Carrey) and I seem to remember both films together as they are in a similar vein. Yet of the two roles, Leonard certainly captured the awkward teenager going through a sudden change masterfully.

It seems the coming out process we’ve seen in True Blood is not new, though this was on a small scale. Jeremy’s evolution (as a character) certainly would work pretty much the same way if he was gay and this was his coming out process, although obviously you can’t be infected gay. Applying the suggestion that Jeremy’s secretive behavior was because he was gay may not be excusable, and certainly it wasn’t necessary to draw the parallel.

Still like any good 80s teenager movie, it includes a car chase, musical-montage and neatly wrapped up plot. And Jeremy was kinda cute (though we only see his fangs once).

Ismael Alvarez’s vampires

Ismael is a wonderfully gifted artist with a flair for the homoerotic cartoons and illustrations. Among the samples of work on his website are a few vampires, one from a video game, an illustration of Louis and Lestat, and what I suspect is a vampire after feeding (messy boy). Check out all his work here.

Valemont: available to some

I had been keeping an eye out for Valemont to start and missed that it did. The vampire webseries has been shown during episodes of The Hills and The City, but only in the US. Finding episodes online has been difficult… come on MTV put it on iTunes.

Pattison number one vampire

Twilight star Robert Pattinson’s character Edward Cullen has been picked number one most favourite movie vampire by 3,000 viewers to an online poll. He beat out several Draculas (the one ugly ones) and Blade. No idea how the vampires were chosen for the list and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Pattison won so close to the release of New Moon. No, purely the outcome of a non-scientific poll by the UK’s biggest in-cinema advertising agency Pearl and Dean.

Another web series for the straight world appearing just in time for halloween, Dead and Lonely is about two lonely Los Angelenos brought together through a dating website, only she turns out to be a vampire. Not sure if the film is geo-blocked outside the US or the site is just not loading, but try to check it out. Dead and Lonely

The week: October 26

We’re counting down to Halloween! I always love when Halloween falls on a Saturday; the perfect night to party. It’s also the day of the official launch on Boylair.com and the Twinkblood DVD.

Now planning a week ahead is often difficult. Last week I listened a few things and then the week exploded, first with the announcement that Twinkblood would be released, and second with the launch of Count Cockula.

Tuesday

The third and final webisode of I kissed a Vampire will be released on iTunes. I know there haven’t been any gay characters so far, but it’s a musical so the whole thing does seem gay to me. I’ll just have to fantasize that Lucas ditches the girl and makes out with Drew. Check it out: US Store or UK Store

Thursday

The Vampire Diaries returns with it’s Halloween episode. Ratings are doing well for the VD and on this weeks episode there’s a new vamp, Vicki created by Damon. Of course this doesn’t make up for the sad lack of any gay characters (well on screen, there’s been mention of someone’s father and his boyfriend). I understand teenagers are now trying out this gay thing so you’d think there’d be at least one or two in Mystic Falls (and they’d make great vampires). If nothing else, maybe a spin off webseries?

Friday

If you live in or near Scottsdale, Arizona USA, Boycrush will be hosting a release party for their new vampire adult film, Twinkblood, October 29, 2009 at Forbidden Nightclub. Apparently if you come dressed as a vampire you get a free copy of the DVD. Oh, I wish so much I could be there to enjoy all those vamps, but instead I will console myself by watching and reviewing the DVD in the coming weeks.
Boycrush blog

Saturday: Halloween
Aside from the official DVD release of the previously mentioned Twinkblood, you know, the twink vampire adult film starting Chase Harding and Miles Pride that you can already pre-order at Twinkblood.com, the boys at Boycrush have another surprise at boylair.com. Bryan Kenny the man behind Twinkblood had this to say on boylair.com: “I decided that it might be a good time to mix boys, sex, and vampirism. Out of this was born my new porn studio and social networking site ‘Boylair’ and boylair.com as well as our first feature length film, ‘Twinkblood’.” I have contacted Bryan and hope to have more to write on this exciting news later in the week.

Saturday is also Halloween, so since it’s the one day you can be outside or at the club with your fangs out, take the opportunity. And send us your pics of you or anyone you see vamped out!
