Four new vampire series premiered this past fall and we now have our first two cancellations, though one is not a surprise. Vampire Academy from NBC’s Peacock was staked earlier in January after the show had run its first season. And news broke days ago that the Showtime+ series remaking the two films, Let The Right One In would not get a second season despite the way it ended.
Let The Right One In was easily the best of the pair, and viewers were eager to see the storylines continue, particular teen vampire Peter. Word on the street is the show was an unfortunate casualty of the Paramount merger. Let the Right One In began streaming on Friday, October 7, 2022.

Vampire Academy was easier to miss and we gave up after a few episodes. While the previous film adaptation had crashed and burned, the series never really captured hearts. Showrunner Julie Plec previously took over the reins of Vampire Diaries and was responsible for expanding the universe—she created The Originals and Legacies. Plec co-developed Vampire Academy with fellow Kyle XY and Vampire Diaries contributor and Caroline’s mom in Vampire Diaries, Elizabeth Forbes. At least Vampire Academy gave us a gay couple, though only one of the couple was a series regular.
The cancellations leave Reginald the Vampire and Interview with the Vampire the last series standing from this fall. Luckily Interview with the Vampire has already been renewed for a second season, and it is by far the best of the four shows. We often complain about the cycles of popularity vampires experience—suddenly there are several shows and movies all at once before there’s a drought, and honestly made this time the field was just too crowded. If we’d had our choice, we would have asked for just Let The Right One In and of course Interview!
