Interview with the Vampire Renewed for Season 2

30 September 2022

AMC just made our week—Interview with the Vampire has been renewed for a second season before the first episode even aired. That’s confidence.

The renewal announcement came ahead of the October 2 premiere on AMC+, confirming that the show will cover the complete story from Anne Rice’s 1976 novel. Season one will focus on Louis and Lestat’s relationship in early 20th century New Orleans, while season two will tackle the second half of the book—which means we’re getting the Paris chapters, the Theatre des Vampires, and everything that happens after Louis and Claudia flee New Orleans.

This is exactly what we needed to hear. The 1994 film tried to cram the entire novel into 122 minutes and had to rush through major plot points. A two-season adaptation means the story gets room to breathe, the relationships get time to develop, and we’ll finally see the full arc of Louis’ journey from human to vampire to… well, we’ll get there.

Jacob Anderson (Louis) and Sam Reid (Lestat) have already proven they have the chemistry to carry this story through multiple seasons. The show’s willingness to be explicitly queer rather than dancing around subtext sets it apart from previous adaptations. And now we know we’re getting the complete story, not just the New Orleans portion.

Season two is set to delve into the Paris vampire coven, introduce Armand (who will become crucial to Louis’ story), and explore what happens when Louis tries to build a life away from Lestat. If the show maintains the quality suggested by the trailers and early buzz, this renewal means we’re in for something special.

The series premieres October 2 on AMC+ and October 5 on AMC. Now we can watch season one knowing the story will be completed in season two. That’s the kind of commitment we want to see from a network adapting Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles.

Finally—gay vampires getting the full treatment they deserve.
